The Future of Virtual Reality in Theme Parks
Project type
3D Design
Date
January 2022
This project explores the evolving role of virtual reality (VR) and projection technology in theme parks, focusing on whether projection mapping could replace or improve existing motion simulators and VR experiences. The research also investigates how these technologies might be optimized for guests who suffer from motion sickness, aiming to provide more inclusive entertainment experiences.
VR and motion simulators are integral to modern theme parks, providing immersive experiences that transport guests to virtual worlds. However, these technologies often induce motion sickness in a significant portion of the audience, limiting accessibility. By examining the limitations of VR and simulators, this research identifies key areas where improvements could be made to reduce nausea while maintaining immersion.
This research presented projection technology as a promising alternative to traditional VR and motion simulators in theme parks, offering a solution for those who suffer from motion sickness. By rethinking the design of immersive experiences, theme parks can continue to innovate while making attractions more accessible to all guests.
